A New Year is fast approaching and for travel lovers thoughts inevitably turn to new travel goals and adding stamps to the passport during our 2018 holidays.
Our recommended New Year’s Resolution is to seek out inspiring cultures and incredible vistas, being led by your wanderlust and making luxury travel a priority. To get you started, here are the places we’re hoping to spend some time next year.
The Bulgari Resort Dubai For Super Luxury
If New York is the city that never sleeps, Dubai is the city that never sits still. Ever changing, ever more impressive, Dubai likes to keep things fresh and there is always a brand new hot spot in which to discover in the city in the desert.
Located on a private lagoon, this exquisite new resort is a microcosm of Dubai’s most elegant, refined and exclusive luxury. As you’d expect from one of the world’s most prestigious jewellery brands, Bulgari is a truly VIP experience, and Elegant Resorts has been personally requested to be the only UK luxury tour operator to allow their clients to be among the first to experience this impeccable luxury resort.
Mandarin Oriental, Marrakech For Style
The red city of Marrakech is much more of an experience than a destination. Appealing to the senses, even its name is a satisfying slur of syllables, conjuring up images of bustling medinas alight with golden lamps and exotic fragrances. Opened in October 2017, it is now also home to Musée Yves Saint Laurent Marrakech. Housed in a sturdy cubic façade, the exhibit inside pays tribute to the couturier’s work and garments rarely seen in public.
Mandarin Oriental, Marrakech is the ideal accompaniment to a 2018 holiday in Morocco. As stylish as ever, we predict that this sleek sanctuary will never fall out of fashion; the gardens are what make it really stand out, with the fragrance of jasmine and over 100,000 roses.
Fairmont Royal Pavilion, Barbados For Beach
Barbados is open for business. After braving the strongest winds in the Atlantic since 2005 during Hurricane Irma, the Caribbean continues to show its true colours of resilience and unbreakable character. Our Travel Consultants were quick off the ground to visit our favourite beach destination as soon as they could, and are happy to report that the sands are ready and waiting for our 2018 holidays.
Having completed a multimillion-dollar restoration project, Fairmont Royal Pavilion can boast fresh new rooms from which to be immersed in Bajan delights – the flavours of the sea, the afternoons spent relaxing on boat trips, the evenings sipping on rum as the sun sets…
Myconian Villa Collection For A Chic Escape
Known for its party scene, Mykonos has a buzzing nightlife. Fantastically cosmopolitan, this whitewashed island is known for its jet-set flavour with beach bars, boutiques and waterfront tavernas.
One of the best ways to enjoy Mykonos, though, is from afar. Myconian Villa Collection is new to the Elegant Resorts portfolio and offers a super-stylish hideaway with beautiful sea views. Interiors are inspired by natural materials and Greek design, though it is the villas that really stand out. With stunning Aegean views from the lazy plunge pools, the sense of peace and privacy ensures that exclusive feel that Mykonos is so well-loved for.
One&Only Le Saint Géran To Be Front Of The Queue
Having closed its doors for one of the most talked-about renovations of the year, we can’t wait to see the transformation of One&Only Le Saint Géran. Long-hailed as the most iconic luxury resort in Mauritius, the exclusive private peninsula location hasn’t changed, while the revamped interiors embrace Mauritian-sourced stone, traditional thatching and locally commissioned art for a modern beach-life look.
There is also a new world-class culinary offering to enjoy with chefs and sommeliers bringing flavours from across the world, including an interactive Teppanyaki station, Korean barbecue and lively open kitchens. There are exclusive experiences to be had, too, from grilling your freshly caught fish on a crackling bonfire to a Harley tour across the island. See our first look at One&Only Le Saint Géran here.
The Silo Hotel For Culture
Opened in March 2017, The Silo Hotel is a newcomer in Cape Town. Created out of a disused grain silo, it is now a design masterpiece from hotelier Liz Biden, towering over the V&A Waterfront. It is also set six floors above the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa, which is the largest collection of contemporary African art. Find out more about The Silo Hotel here.
Music, food, history – Cape Town is the city break by the sea that should be high up on you wishlist of 2018 holidays. Next year, there is a great line-up of music festivals heading its way. The Cape Town Jazz Festival is one of the most established, taking place in March every year with jazz and soul music from South Africa and beyond; this year, Corinne Bailey Rae is taking to the stage. Rocking The Daisies, which takes place on the Cloof Wine Estate, is South Africa’s biggest outdoor gathering, while the Kirstenbosh Summer Sunset Concerts offers live music in the twilight hours every week up until April 2018.
A Californian Journey For A Food And Wine Wonderland
Our hearts are set on San Francisco for our 2018 holidays. San Francisco is always ahead of the game when it comes to dining, with a forever flourishing scene of street food, Michelin Stars and passed-down recipes at Fisherman’s Wharf. Combined with the world-famous wine regions of Napa Valley and Sonoma Valley, its truly a dream destination.
Along with the big city players, there are some wonderful, more boutique, hideaways to discover on your California road trip. In Fisherman’s Wharf, Argonaut Hotel – A Noble House Hotel is set in a re-purposed nautical warehouse and is ideal for getting a glimpse of the ebb-and-flow of local life. Timber Cove is also a true gem, occupying a magical location along the rugged pacific coast of Sonoma and featuring a Crosley record player in every room.
Scenic Eclipse For An Adventure
Luxury cruising is enjoying something of a renaissance lately. Scenic Cruises are certainly a part of this; branching out from their exceptional river cruises, Scenic Eclipse is their new, high-tech, ocean-faring vessel combining luxury with exploration. On board, the ship features a fleet of kayaks and Zodiacs, plus a submarine and a helicopter for transporting guests to off-the-beaten-track locations. Opening up destinations such as the Arctic regions of Iceland, Greenland and Svalburg, keen explorers should definitely keep an eye on Scenic Eclipse for their 2018 holidays.
