When you think of Barbados, chances are your mind instantly conjures up images of powder-white sand, a cooling tropical breeze and the calm, cyan-coloured water of the Caribbean Sea. However, there is a lot of manicured green to be uncovered on this island, as Barbados has a true kinship with golf.
The balmy, year-round climate, convenient roster of direct flights from the UK and enticing array of post-round activities make Barbados a blissful destination for golfers, whether you’re near scratch or just starting out. Golf-lovers have a smorgasbord of courses to choose from – with enough to play a new course each day for a week! Furthermore, the island’s endless calendar of activities can keep the family entertained, so that you can enjoy your round guilt-free. Of course, Elegant Resorts can arrange tee-times, pre-paid green fees and lessons with PGA pros across Barbados’ finest courses.
Whilst we can’t guarantee you’ll return to the clubhouse under par, you’ll definitely have enjoyed one of the most scenic, thrilling and unforgettable games of your life.
Fit for golf royalty, undulating hills, deep valleys and exposed rock faces give this course its character, whilst the back nine is a mix of challenging and deceptive holes that demand skill and patience. There’s no let up on the front nine either, where the fairways are tricky and quick. The colonial-style clubhouse, meanwhile, brings the Bajan ambience.

A legendary hotel with bone-fide golf credentials, as the undisputed heavyweight of Barbados’ luxury scene, Sandy Lane takes golf very seriously. Choose from three world-class courses, all of which have played host to golf’s biggest names in the past. Visually, this trio of golf glory surpass your every expectation, but there is infinite substance with the style. These courses aren’t for the faint hearted – the challenge is utterly addictive.
The Green Monkey
Loved by golfers, pro and amateur, around the world – and for good reason. The name suggests a cheeky sense of fun, but it is all business when you arrive on the first green. Carved from an old stone quarry, this course offers some of the most challenging par threes in the world. Taming the Green Monkey is a thrilling task, but the bragging rights of being one of the select elite to play this course (it is only open to guests of Sandy Lane) is definitely worth it.

The Country Club
Water hazards, lush greens and a particularly memorable par three 9th, where the elevated tee exposes you to the critical glare of your peers in the clubhouse, make this course wonderfully playable. Regularly ranked as one of the best courses in the Caribbean, a round here is a must for any golfer seeking to play a rewarding course in golfer’s paradise.

The Old Nine
As the name suggests, this is a smaller course, but one that’s perfectly formed, ideal for when you’re looking to squeeze in a round before dinner or if you have just a quick window before your jaunt on a jet-ski. The Old Nine isn’t diminished by its younger neighbours, as its wisdom and wile has stood the test of time. The intimate, tree-lined, fairways ask for flawless shot selection, whilst the smaller greens and petite fairways are unapologetically unforgiving.

Apes Hill Club
Another of Barbados’ most acclaimed spots for socialising and hobnobbing is Apes Hill Club. As the only golf, polo and tennis club on Barbados, this exclusive venue has a reputation to maintain. This championship course often vies with The Green Monkey for the title of Barbados’ favourite course. The elevated tee on the 12th gives incredible panoramic views of the Caribbean and Atlantic coasts, whilst the uphill par fives require serious patience.
