Indonesian food is as colourful as its culture, bursting with flavour, fragrance and traditions that mingle into a culinary experience like no other.

The perfect antidote to flavour-fatigue, Balinese food is a match made in heaven for food-lovers heading to the ‘Island of the Gods’ in Indonesia. Each dish is unique, resulting from a swirling together of cultures, with ingredients grown from a fertile landscape fed with plenty of natural sunshine.

At Four Seasons Resort Bali at Jimbaran Bay you can be immersed in the flavours of Bali, from satay to betutu, with all the hints of nutmeg, ginger, turmeric, coconut, chilli and much more in between. With the Four Seasons Cooking Academy, you can embark on a culinary journey, from farm to fork, as you join an expert chef in creating your own authentic Balinese cuisine.

Our Product Manager for Asia, Jessica Abrams, recently went to sample the cooking school for herself:

“The Cooking Academy is one of the best experiences and a must-do whilst staying at Four Seasons Jimbaran Bay. The chef, Kris, is so interactive and engaging, we were all enthralled by his knowledge of each individual spice and how they worked together. We were met at a professional kitchen, with all the ingredients measured out for us; we all got a chef’s hat and apron to wear, along with a recipe book and step-by-step guide, which we were able to take home with us. Kris then talked us through each course and by the end of the lesson, we had made 12 local recipes, which we got to taste along the way. We each then got a certificate to take home with us. Our lunch was the best Indonesian food that I ate on the trip!”

Jimbaran Bay Cooking Academy

As part of the experience, you have the option to head to Jimbaran Fish Market, where you will be given a tour of the famed fish stalls, renowned for their wonderfully fresh produce. Watch the traditional boats being unloaded and baskets being expertly balanced on the women’s heads as they are carried up from the beach.

Next, you will be shown around the resort’s herb and vegetable gardens, before returning to the kitchen to learn the secrets of local cooking techniques using your organic, hand picked ingredients. For the finale, you will gather around the dining table to taste your creations.

This Bali cooking class is perfect for all levels of ability and there are also special family classes available, with age-appropriate recipes for children to get involved in the fun, too. If you don’t feel like getting so hands-on with your food, you can also enjoy the Jimbaran Bay Cooking Academy dinner experience. Choose from an á la carte menu of traditional Balinese dishes and enjoy the authentic flavours, such as jumbo sweet prawns and famed bebek betutu crispy duck.

Whether you want to expand your cooking skills or flex your already well-honed culinary prowess, Jimbaran Bay Cooking Academy is ideal for getting a true taste of Bali.
