It’s not just about fashion houses anymore. Fashion has also taken over hotel rooms across the world, with the top names in the industry offering up their superior eye to create designer hotel rooms with a difference.
It’s no surprise that fashion and travel make such a good pairing; top designer names have a faithful jet-setting clientele that all need a place to stay when heading off on their next escape. From the early days of the paparazzi, fashion icons have been snapped in their favourite holiday destinations, from Coco Chanel catching her accidental tan in the French Riviera to Prince William and Duchess Kate Middleton jetting off on their Seychelles honeymoon.

Round Hill Hotel and Villas by Ralph Lauren
Ralph Lauren has hit fashion headlines for his Spring 2018 Ready-to-Wear runway show by bringing a recreation of his Jamaican holiday home to the chilly streets of Manhattan. Along with his troop of effortlessly elegant models, perfectly bedecked for days on beaches or entertaining on yachts, the beach-house inspired catwalk was a loving nod to his beloved hideaway in Jamaica, Round Hill Hotel and Villas.
Originally built as a sugarcane plantation, Round Hill was transformed into a private haven for socialites in the 1950s, with guests including John F. Kennedy and Jackie Kennedy Onassis, who stayed for their honeymoon. Ralph Lauren purchased his first part of the house 20 years ago, and later designed the 36 guestrooms in his characteristic crisp and clean style.
L’Hôtel Marrakech by Jasper Conran
Known for its heady mix of colour, culture and bustling souks, Marrakech is the perfect place for a designer hotel to take root. Jasper Conran must have thought the same when he transformed his privately owned 19th century riad into a stylish escape for those who dream of being immersed in the sumptuous luxury of Morocco with L’Hôtel Marrakech.
Originally part of a Caidal palace, the interiors haven’t lost their original sense of regal beauty while capturing the inspired elegance of 1930s glamour. Local crafts, materials and art from Conran’s personal collection make this one of the more unique hotels with a fashion designer touch, while the roof terrace with stunning views of the Atlas Mountains across the Marrakech skyline prove why a double-dose of travel and fashion never go out of style.
Bulgari Resort Dubai
Already the only name you need for finding some of the world’s finest Italian jewellery, Bulgari is now also making inroads into creating the most immaculate luxury designer hotels.
The latest addition to the collection is Bulgari Resort Dubai, which opened in December 2017. Set on the exclusive Jumeira Bay and surrounded by an urban oasis of lush gardens, the feeling of Bulgari’s innovative and indulgent design saturates the 101 rooms and suites and 20 villas with a glossy finish throughout. Highlights include the mosaic swimming pool, the world’s first Bulgari Yacht Club and a sprawling spa with an irresistible hammam.
Hotel Metropole Monte-Carlo by Karl Lagerfeld
Karl Lagerfeld is, arguably, the perfect match for Monte-Carlo. Glamorous, extravagant and not for the faint-hearted, there is no denying the attraction. Which is why, perhaps, the formidable style icon opted to lend his hand in redesigning Hotel Metropole Monte-Carlo’s pool and its accompanying restaurant, ‘Odyssey’.
Inspired in typically couture fashion by the epic ancient Greek poems, The Illiad and The Odyssey, the installation comprises a 65-foot long series of photographs shot by the designer himself and etched onto glass. The pool floor is scattered with a constellation of lights, and the whole display can be admired from the restaurant and bar, which opens out onto the terrace during summer.
